"The software updates are one of the most important factors in today's modern electronic OS based devices" and that's a fact. Whether it's a smart TV, laptops (or PCs), smartphones or smart watches, regular software update is a must. And companies are starting to realise this.
Fossil smart watches are great and one of the benefits of owning a Fossil group's smartwatch is regular software updates. So, adhering to this Fossil released the H-MR2 Wear OS update which Google announced back in August 2020, but started rolling in September 2020 for Suunto 7 smartwatch. Now, according to a thread of r/WearOS in reddit, Fossil Group users are finally getting the Wear OS H-MR2 Update. But what is this update about? What improvements will it bring? Right?
The Wear OS H-MR2 Update
According to Google, this particular update will bring some performance and power improvements with some other "fundamental" upgrades. Specifically:
There are some significant improvement in CPU Core, which will speed up app startup by 20%. Wear OS devices can be sluggish sometimes, so this update will take care of it.
This update brings the support of Snapdragon Wear 4100 and 4100+ platforms.
It simplified the pairing process and users can now tweak the UI.
A new updated Weather tile design. The icons are now bigger which will be “easier to read while on the go". It will still continue giving access to the hourly breakdown of the weather, as was the case earlier.
Finally, users now will get the ability to TURN OFF Long Press Power button to activate Google Assistant.
The tile limit has increased. According to this thread, users can add up to 10 tiles. Also, there's a new time limit to turn the screen off.
Some UI changes, specifically the layout of controlling the screen brightness has changed.
Google said that it is “working to bring the best of Android 11 to wearables.” It has also added a handwashing timer, so as to remind us to wash our hands regularly.
But Which Fossil devices will get the H-MR2 Update?
Don't worry, I got ya. I'll tell you. Currently only 5 devices are known to be getting this update.
Fossil Gen 5 series
Diesel Axial
Skagen Falster 3
Emporio Armani Smartwatch 3
Michael Kors Access Lexington
But as soon as I get updates of any other devices getting this update. I'll update this list. And yes, Fossil Sport users don't get disheartened you'll soon get this update (Hopefully).
How to update your Fossil Smartwatch?
Here, I am going to mention how to update the SOFTWARE on your smart watch? If you want to know about the procedure to update Wear OS app, just hover over to play store, then My Apps. If you see "Updates available," download the one you want, or tap Update all. That's it.
Before updating, first you may want to check your current watch version. To check it:
Press power button to open your list of apps.
Go to Settings > System.
Then About > Versions.
There you can see your watch's OS version and the system version.
The OS version is which I talked earlier, which can be updated through play store.
The System version on the other hand is the main update (H-MR2). This whole article is about this system version update.
Download the System Updates
Normally, these updates are automatic. They may be visible on your notification bar. But if somehow they aren't visible, follow this simple steps.
Press power button to open your list of apps.
Go to Settings > System > About.
Scroll a bit down and tap System Updates.
Now just download it and install it. Congratulations, you now have the latest Wear OS system. Go on and enjoy.
So this was all for this post. It seems that now Google has started working on its Wear OS more seriously. The Wear OS still isn't the best OS out there, though this update brings some major improvements. Hopefully Google will keep improving this OS and who knows, it might be able to beat out some top OS(s) in the game.
